Casa Montero CSIC CCHs

The pottery recovered during the first field season at Casa Montero showed the mine was used by Early Neolithic groups over 7000 years ago. The radiocarbon method was used to provide absolute datings of remains of charred wood (Holm oak [Quercus ilex], Kermes oak [Q. coccifera], and juniper [Juniperus sp.]) and domestic animals (Ovis aries) found inside the structures. These suggested a date of 5200-5300 BC, confirming the initial dating.
